We are looking for an extremely friendly Dog Trainer to work on a casual/part time basis in our Oxenford store. The role will also require some retail sales assistant work as required from time to time. For the right candidate, there is potential for this position to transition into a part-time role. The successful candidate will have: 

  • Passion for animal behaviour and training. Positive reinforcement based training experience or qualifications are highly regarded
  • Commitment to the care of pets
  • Public speaking and presentation experience
  • High integrity, and be highly motivated and proactive
  • Composure under stress and pressure
  • The ability to communicate to all levels with ease
  • Ideally some retail experience working with a high volume, disciplined retailer
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Animal studies qualifications will be highly regarded
  • A commitment to ongoing learning and improvement in the field of science-based animal training.  

Your primary role will be delivering dog training classes and one on one dog training. Your initial onboarding will also include retail training and store procedures as well as in depth training of our Pet Academy classes and operations.

You must be reliable, determined to meet high standards, flexible regarding working days and hours and able to work unsupervised. You must be able to work on weekends.   

You must be willing to deliver the dog training content as provided to you to remain within our animal welfare and ethics guidelines, as well as undertaking regular paid training sessions with our senior Trainers to refresh and improve your skills.

As part of your responsibilities, you must be physically fit and capable so as to handle dogs of all sizes as reasonably expected of the role. Have the ability to restrain dogs up to and including large breeds as required. In your training role you will likely be required to work with species other than dogs as well in the future (i.e. cat and aquatic classes).

You may be required to lift heavy items up to 20kg (e.g., bags of dog food).
